WOYWW -

Well, here it is.....
Don't recognize this desk?  It's the counter in my room.  I thought if I let everything stay on the counter, I'd walk in and out of the room and work on this album as time permitted.  This is the second one I've  made of this album.  I'm surprised how quickly the second one is going together.  I guess the second one is a charm.

Not so exciting this week, nothing finished.  My counter does look pretty organized....hmmmmm I'm going to have to work on that next week....Well, I know there will be some exciting happenings over at Stamping Ground, and Miss Julia has organized a tour for you.  Check it out here.  And then get that camera out and show us what you got!

Off I am for now....have a most wonderful week and see you again soon.

February Card Class

Hi,

From the looks of these cards, I'm ready for spring.  Actually here in California, we haven't yet had winter.  Maybe these cards will wake up Mother nature and have her turn the clock back to give us some rain.  Here are my February Card Class cards.....
and a little something different for card two.  I couldn't decide on which floral print to use, so, you get a choice of one.  This is a tri fold card.
Karen has the cards on display.  If you want to check them out farther.  As always, sign ups are limited.

This is not our normal January.  Looks what's blooming.....
The Saucer Magnolia shouldn't show up until late spring.
Our Camellia's bushes are full and blooming....
I think come spring there will be nothing left to bloom.  I just hope bad weather doesn't sneak in before these plants finish blooming.

Off I go for now.  Hugs to everyone from hot and dry California,
Mary

The First Rudolph Day 2014

Ahhhh,,,,, it's time for another Rudolph Day....thought you were done seeing my Christmas cards, at least for awhile?  Well, every month between now and Christmas of 2014, I am hoping to share my latest cards.  Hey, this will keep me creating so I will be ready at mailing time.

This year's Rudolph Day challenge is just a little bit different.  I think you'll love the changes.  I'm not going to list the new rules, you'll just have to check them out HERE.  I hope you will want to play along and when you do, be sure to link your creations.

Well here goes:
This is number 1 and you are going to see a theme.  I'm using snippets for all 5 of these cards.  I have a sheet of graphics that are filled with post cards and vintage art.  So, each of my cards will have one or more of these images.  If you look at past posts, you'll see I made a mini album using The KaiserCraft  6 1/2 inch paper pad - St. Nicholas.  After completing the album there were lots of paper pieces left over.  What better place to use them....Here's card number 2:
Want to see number 3:
How about number 4:
Ok....here's number 5:
The cards with the wide ribbon are covering up places that are missing pieces of card stock.  It was a good way to use up smaller pieces.  The insides are pretty much the same for all 5.  So, I'll only show one of the insides.
So that's it from me.  I planned on making 10 Christmas cards this month.  I'm hoping to get a few more made, but you know....life sometimes gets in the way of plans.

I think I'll be skipping over to link these to Di's blog to post these snippet cards.  Check out Di's blog page HERE.  Di, I've got to agree with you.  Making a batch is much easier than making just one.  Kind of like cookies!

Happy Wednesday So What's On Your Workdesk?

It's WEDNESDAY and that means....WOYWW and it just happens to be #242  So, this is mine and if you want to play along, you'll just have to check it out Julia's site .... right HERE

You won't see any cards on my desk this week, at least not cards I'm working on.  You will however see my WeRMemory Keepers Envelope Punch board.  Just so you know, I use it often.  Seems I've not learned to make standard size cards, so this tool is a must for me.  I'll be showing some cards I'm working on for Rudolph Day and guess what, they aren't a standard size. This little tool will save my bacon! That's a strange term isn't it?  What does that mean anyway?  Anyone out there love figuring out why we say what we say?  Ok...so on with the desk.  The finished cards will be 4 x 6 1/2 inches.  They will be a continuation of my last snippet card and they will help me on my way to 10 a month.  I'll be more clear later.

So on my desk is the Envelope Punch board, which I discovered has a few errors for size.  But don't fear, if you have the original board, which I do, you can get the correct sizes by going to this site
You'll be able to download the update if you need to.  The error was corrected when they made the second edition.

So, what else is on my desk....The envelopes I've started making, my Ipad with a photo of the capitol of Wisconsin as seen in a reflection in the window of the Historical Society.  Taken when my buddy Dee Dee and I went to the mid-west for my daughter's wedding.  I like that photo, my daughter had taken a similar photo a few years earlier...and I copied the idea.  I've started putting up a new photo every day, for inspiration and memories.  My photo booth is in the background as are the bins of paper, books of dies and pens.  Exciting...No?

So, that's it.  I think I need to go get inspired as today I need to work on cards for my February class.  Any ideas?  No Valentines....The girls have threatened me if I even think about creating one!

I'm off....wishing you a creative Wednesday and don't forget, check out Julia's site to see what she's been up to and you can see what all of us have been doing or not doing.

Update:   Thanks to Shaz, she solved the mystery....

Save one's bacon

Meaning

Escape from injury; avoid harm, especially to one's body.

Origin

By bacon, we now normally mean the cured and dried meat taken from the back or sides of a pig. To the mediaeval mind, 'bacon' was meat from anywhere on the body of the animal - more akin to what we now call pork. This was the origin of the slang term 'bacon' meaning the human body. 'Saving your bacon' was simply saving your body from harm. The expression was used that way as early as the 17th century as, for example, this extract from Ireland's Momus Elenticus, 1654:
"Some fellowes there were... To save their bacon penn'd many a smooth song."

A Snippet Christmas Card

Happy Thursday, I thought I'd share a snippet card I made.  I have lots of Christmas snippets, so I think I'll be sharing lots of Christmas cards....My goal, 10 a month...well, after today, I have 9 more to go this month!  I hope to get some done tomorrow when I crop with the girls.  Well, here is card number 1....

and here is the inside....
The papers are snippets left from an album I'll be showing next month.  I love the KaiserCraft  6 1/2 by 6 1/2 paper pad.  I used a gold pen around the graphics and then framed them on brown card stock.  The gold snowflake was hard for me to use...it's one of those hoarded items that have been hanging around for a long time.  It's pretty chunky, maybe I should have used a die cut snowflake, you know those postal charges are killing us old pensioners...hmmmm I'll have to give it a bit of a thought....I might just be trying to pry the snowflake off.  I wish I wouldn't have used so much glue. Oh well!

I'm heading over to share my little snippet card with Di and I'm hoping that you too will have a snippet card or two to share.  It's easy and it's fun and you'll find Di to be quite the gal.  We all meet on the playground and I'll warn you, a few of the gals just might be up to no good.  Check out Pixie's Crafty Workshop right here.

Until next time, have a most wonderful week and happy crafting.

WOYWW and Marion Smith Designs

Good Wednesday Morning....you know that means What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, but before I share I desk, I want to share a card I made using Marion Smith Designs papers.  This collection is called Garment District.  I was lucky enough to meet Marion when she was visiting Chico and came by Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  She and her husband are the sweetest people, anyway, last year, during the Paradise Scrapbook Boutique Anniversary Party,  I was gifted papers and instruction for an album made from the Mad Tea Party papers.  Well, I loved the papers and the album.....thanks to Deb was beautifully created.  Well, long story short....I am hooked on Marion's designs.  And I am soooo excited because she is coming to PSB in February to teach and I can not wait to see what she and Karen have planned for us....Ok, so this is what the inside of the card looks like...
I wanted to have a tag that would give lots of room for a note.  I think this fits the bill!  I'm happy with this card.  I can't wait to find a minute to start another card.....Ok, so moving on......

Last night I was trying to catch up on my blog reading, which by the way I am so far behind.  Well, I hopped over to have a look at what Mrs. A was up to.  She said she'd not been posting as she was organizing her craft room. Well, she created her first card and it is stunning.  I hope you hop over to see what she's made.

Well, that's what I've been up to.  And when I show the photo you will probably say, which item did you move?  Trust me, I've been very busy, getting rid of things I don't need, to make room for the things I do.  What started as just down sizing my papers, move to getting rid of two paper holders that never seem to get used, then it went to organizing envelopes, and then ribbon, and then Christmas embellishments, and then, and then and then!  Seems the more I organized the more messy my room became.  Until finally it was looking pretty good.  I still am trying to put 20 pounds of goods into a 2 pound bag...hmmmm!  Does this make me a hoarder?  Maybe!  Are you ready?  Here it is....
So, now that I have my room cleaned, I guess it's time to make a mess.  Before I do, I want to tell you...it's your turn to share and after you've done so, I you'll need to head over to Julia's Place and link your share.  There you can see all of the other desks.  Trust me, you'll be glad you did!  Be sure to leave a comment.

Until next time, and I think next time will be soon, as I am going to head to my craft room and make a snippet Christmas card.  A goal for this year, 10 Christmas cards a month....let's hope I stick to it.  And I want most of them to be made from snippets.  Note, that's my goal, Di, please don't hold me to it!

Hugs from me to you,  Happy crafting!

WOYWW 239

Happy New Year and here's what my desk looks like this wonderful Day 1 of 2014.
Nothing exciting today.  Yesterday I finished putting kits together for my January class.  That's what you see peeking in from the right side.  The plastic box on the left is what I shall be carrying them to class.  The pink in the center are supplies I will be using to put together a Birthday card for a friend.  Can you see what I re-purposed?  Hint....2014.  I made one earlier and a friend like it so I gifted it to her.  I was going to create another one for me, however, I've got so much to do that I pasted the 2014 calendar pages over the 2013 base I removed the original flower and added one with 2014 in the center.  If I have time later, I'll make a new calendar.  Am I lazy or what?  So, I'm going to enter the calendar, just as it sits into Pixie's Crafty Workshop Snippet challenge.  If you don't see it there, I chickened out!
Guilt got the best of me....well her's my "new to me" calendar.  Sorry the picture is so fuzzy...

Well lots to finish before bed and I'm thinking the recliner wants me to share some time with it...so before I give in to the temptation.....I shall get up and moving.

I'm sure most of you already know about WOYWW, but for those who don't check it out here.  And this first Wednesday of the New Year is the perfect time to join in.   Until next time.....

Sparkles Christmas Challenge

I've got great news.....I'm on the Sparkles Christmas Challenges Design Team for 2014! I am thrilled to be creating with some very creative people.  Here's what I made for my first post.....
Helen picked this challenge and it's called More Than One Fold
I couldn't wait to start on Christmas Cards and Gift Card Holders for 2014.  So, off I ran to create this gift card/money holder.  I borrowed this stamp from my friend Virginia.  I think I may have to go on a search to find it...I'm loving this jolly Santa.
The money/gift card holder was made using a Sizzix die, the Ornament is Poppystamps the border is Memory Box and the sentiment is a stamp called Bright and Merry G1117 is from Stampabilities.  The die cut it is sitting on is Spellbinders as is the die used on the front of the card.  And here is what the Sizzix die looks like when it's open...
Now here's some fantastic news.  Sparkles Christmas Challenge isn't just a challenge that keeps us all working toward Christmas, it's also a place to share ideas and get and keep inspired.  Want more?  Well let me tell you about this months prize.....A $10.00 voucher graciously given by
